Planning Your Bangkok Trip

Day 1: Royal Heritage and Ultimate Shopping

For a deep dive into the stunning temples we explored across Bangkok, check out our full guide here.

Our journey began at the Grand Palace and Wat Phra Kaew (Temple of the Emerald Buddha). The intricate architecture and 500 THB entry fee are well worth it to see the former royal residence.

Pro tip: Secure your spot below and save yourself a trip to the ticket booth.

Later, we headed to MBK Center, our favorite mall in Bangkok. It is a haven for souvenirs, electronics, and Halal food. We stocked up on stationary at Moshi Moshi and enjoyed a delicious Halal Indian lunch at the food court.

Day 2: Theme Park Thrills and Riverside Luxury

We dedicated day two to Dreamworld, the “Disneyworld of Bangkok.” At 600 THB per adult, it offers everything from high speed coasters to toddler friendly rides like the monorail and paddle boats. The Photopia area and Seven Wonders miniature park were huge hits with the kids.

Pro tip: Secure your ticket below to beat the heat and start your adventure as quickly as possible.

In the evening, we visited ICONSIAM. While it features luxury brands, the real highlight is SOOKSIAM, a cultural bazaar on the ground floor with excellent Halal food and mango sticky rice.

Day 3: A Trio of Stunning Temples

We explored three distinct temples:

  • Wat Pho: Home to the massive Gold Reclining Buddha (300 THB).
  • Wat Saket (The Golden Mount): A 320 step climb offering panoramic city views (100 THB).
  • Wat Benchamabophit: The “Marble Temple,” which was peaceful, white, and incredibly soothing (100 THB).

Day 4: Ancient Wonders in Ayutthaya

We took a day trip to the UNESCO World Heritage site of Ayutthaya. We hired a private taxi for 8 hours to explore the magnificent ruins of 4 famous temples:

  • Wat Chaiwatthanaram
  • Wat Lokaya Sutha
  • Wat Phra Si Sanphet
  • Wat Maha That

The history here is palpable and a must see for any visitor. We had to constantly stop at cafes and hydrate ourselves because it was extremely hot. Nevertheless, we had a great time exploring the ancient site.

Pro Tip: We took a taxi, but if you’re looking to keep costs down, booking a guided group tour from Bangkok is a much better deal. You can snag a spot using the link below!

Day 5: Silk, Sharks, and Siam Paragon

We started at the Jim Thompson House Museum. For 250 THB, a guided tour takes you through the beautiful home of the American businessman who revolutionized the Thai silk industry.

Next, we went to Siam Paragon to visit SEA LIFE Bangkok Ocean World (approx. 1000 THB). The kids were thrilled to see penguins, sharks, and seahorses. We ended the day exploring the rest of Siam Paragon, where we found even more Halal options, including Chicken Biryani.

Pro-tip: Secure your SEA LIFE Bangkok ticket below to save time.

Day 6: Riverside Gems and Geek Culture

Day six began at Wat Arun (The Temple of Dawn) for 200 THB, offering stunning views of the Chao Phraya River. We then walked to Wat Kanlayanamit, a peaceful temple with no entrance fee, and strolled through Soi Kudeejeen, a charming Portuguese neighborhood. We also stopped by Wat Prayurawongsawas to admire its architecture.

In the afternoon, we visited Megaplaza, a “geek” paradise filled with anime figures, Harry Potter collectibles, and arcades. We ended the day with a 45 minute walk through the vibrant murals and street art of Ong Ang Walking Street.

Day 7: Riverside Shopping and Final Goodbyes

Our last day was all about souvenirs. We started at Tha Maharaj, an outdoor mall on the river. We then moved to Asiatique The Riverfront, which we found even more impressive. It features a massive Miniso Land and endless shopping options.

We concluded our trip at CentralwOrld, the ninth largest mall in the world. We were lucky to catch a Disney exhibition with live performances and stalls. It was the perfect place to buy our final gifts before heading home.

  • Phrigkiao Bangkok: Try the Sweet Chilli Fried Fish and Satay Wagyu.

Final Remarks

Our week in Bangkok was truly magical. We fell in love with the vibrant culture, impressive architecture, and world class shopping malls, but the highlight was undoubtedly the food. Thai cuisine is one of our absolute favorites, and we were thrilled to find so many incredible Halal restaurants serving authentic local dishes. The variety was endless, and our tastebuds were constantly discovering something new.

Beyond the flavors, Bangkok is an exceptionally kid friendly destination. The hospitality of the locals made our entire family feel welcome throughout our stay. We truly appreciated the presence of Praying Rooms in almost every mall. We highly recommend Thailand for Muslim families with little ones who are looking for a perfect balance of adventure and comfort.
