A Day Dedicated to Wisteria
In March 2020, we had planned a two week trip to Japan, but it was unfortunately cancelled when the lockdowns happened. Three years later, in May 2023, we finally made it to Japan. The only difference was that we were accompanied by our 1.5 year old daughter. This was our first long vacation with our daughter and we were not sure how it would be. However, all three of us had an awesome time and we enjoyed every bit of our time in Japan.
The third day of our trip was dedicated to Ashikaga Flower Park located in Tochigi. We travelled from Tokyo to Ashikaga to explore the beautiful flower park especially the wisteria.

Visiting Ashikaga Flower Park
The ticket to the park was worth ¥2000 and it took us two hours of train travel to arrive at the park from Tokyo. We spent three hours at the park.
Our main motivation to visit the park was to experience the large collection of Wisteria. I was always fascinated by the beauty of the Wisteria plant and I was not disappointed by Ashikaga Flower Park. Apart from the Wisteria, there was a huge collection of other flowers as well. The park was extremely scenic and the flowers enhanced the beauty even more. Our daughter couldn’t get over how many beautiful flowers were displayed at the park. She walked around the whole park looking at different colored flowers and pointing them out to us.
Delicious Treats and Souvenirs
We also had the chance of trying the famous Fuji Ice Cream, also known as Wisteria Ice Cream, at the park. We all found it to be extremely delicious. Before we left, we explored the huge shops selling grand collections of seeds, potted plants, cacti, succulents, and a lot of other things. We walked out of the park with bags full of souvenirs and wonderful memories.
Final Remarks
Our visit to Ashikaga Flower Park was a true highlight of our time in Japan. For anyone based in Tokyo, this breathtaking botanical destination is an essential day trip. Between the iconic wisteria tunnels and the seasonal displays, it’s an experience you shouldn’t miss.
