Getting Around and Staying in Netherlands

1. Pannekoekhuis Strijland, Rheden

  • 🥘Cuisine: Dutch Pancakes (Pannekoeken) & Dutch Casual Dining
  • Our Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
  • 🌙 Halal Status: Not Halal (Vegetarian Options Available)
  • 📸 Socials: Instagram
  • 💰 Budget: CHF 15–CHF 30 per person

Pannekoekhuis Strijland in Rheden is a charming pancake house that serves delicious pancakes. If you are looking to enjoy both savoury and sweet pancakes, this is definitely the place to visit.

The restaurant does not offer Halal meat options, so we always stick to their excellent vegetarian selections. For international travelers, the menu is fully available in English.

Our favorite pancakes to order are the Cheese Pancake, the Apple Pancake with Sugar and Cinnamon, and the special pancake topped with Mozzarella, Olives, Sundried Tomatoes, and Pesto. The last one is my personal favorite, and I absolutely love the combination of flavors.

2. India Way, Leiden

  • 🥘Cuisine: Authentic Indian
  • ⭐ Our Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
  • 🌙 Halal Status: 100% Halal (Alcohol Served)
  • 🌐 Website: https://india-ways.nl/
  • 📸 Socials: Instagram
  • 💰 Budget: €25–€45 per person

One of Mehran’s colleagues took us to India Way for dinner, and it turned out to be an incredible recommendation. The restaurant serves a 100% Halal menu featuring authentic Indian cuisine, and we were treated to some of the best Indian food we have ever tasted.

The butter chicken was incredibly creamy and delicious, the naans were soft and hot, and the aloo gobi was divine. The tandoori chicken was an absolute treat, and a refreshing Mango Lassi tied everything together perfectly.

The food and service experience was so awesome that we returned to Leiden during our next visit to the Netherlands, driving 90 minutes one way just to dine at India Way again. We usually have a very hard time finding top quality South Asian Halal food, but the dishes served at India Way were just pure perfection.

3. King of India, Arnhem

  • 🥘Cuisine: Authentic Indians
  • Our Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐
  • 🌙 Halal Status: 100% Halal
  • 🌐 Website: kingofindia.nl
  • 📸 Socials: Instagram
  • 💰 Budget: CHF 25–CHF 45 per person

King of India is a dedicated Halal Indian restaurant located in Arnhem. The restaurant features both indoor and outdoor seating options, and we chose to sit outdoors to enjoy the atmosphere.

During our visit, we ordered the Samosa, Aloo Chaat, Mixed Kebab, Palak Paneer, Tandoori Chicken, Garlic Naan, and Mango Lassi. While we thoroughly enjoyed the main dishes and found them delicious, we were not entirely pleased with the Aloo Chaat and the Samosas. It is still a wonderful stop if you are craving Indian flavors in the area.

4. Maruki, Rotterdam

  • 🥘Cuisine: Halal Japanese (Ramen, Sushi & Donburi)
  • ⭐ Our Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
  • 🌙 Halal Status: 100% Halal Certified
  • 🌐 Website: maruki.nl
  • 📸 Socials: Instagram
  • 💰 Budget: €20–€40 per person

Maruki is a fully Halal Japanese restaurant located in Rotterdam. Ever since our amazing trip to Japan in 2023, we are always on the lookout for authentic Halal Japanese places. We drove over an hour to have dinner at Maruki, and the experience did not disappoint.

We ordered the Tori Karaage, Yakitori, Classic Ramen, Tori Katsu Curry, Wagyu Aburi Donburi, and Wagyu Aburi Nigiri. I know this sounds like a massive amount of food for two adults and two kids, but we really like to go all out when it concerns Japanese food!

Each and every dish was extremely delicious, and we were so glad to have experienced it all. This is an absolute must visit destination if you want genuine halal Japanese cuisine.

5. AJISAN Authentic Tokyo Ramen, Rotterdam

  • 🥘Cuisine: Authentic Japanese Ramen
  • ⭐ Our Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
  • 🌙 Halal Status: Pork & Alcohol Served (Halal Chicken Broth, Seafood & Vegetarian Options Available)
  • 🌐 Website: ajisanramen.nl
  • 📸 Socials: Instagram
  • 💰 Budget: €20–€35 per person

The menu at AJISAN is NOT 100% Halal. It is a popular ramen restaurant in Rotterdam that provides excellent Halal chicken options for Muslim diners. Once again, we drove an hour just to arrive at the restaurant. It was completely full when we arrived, so we were incredibly glad to have made a table reservation in advance.

We ordered the Spiced Karaage, Yakitori, a Chicken Rice Bowl, and two different bowls of Chicken Ramen. Everything was prepared perfectly. We walked out of the restaurant with both our hearts and stomachs happy.
