Trip to a Major Bucketlist Destination

Exploring the historic city of Prague is a dream for many families. In June 2025, we finally had the opportunity to explore this architectural wonderland over a long weekend. After driving from Switzerland and stopping overnight in Germany, we arrived in the Czech capital just in time for a delicious lunch.

If you are planning a short family getaway, here is our tried and tested itinerary that balances iconic landmarks with kid-friendly locations and excellent Halal dining.

Day 1: Lego Wonders and Hidden Caves

1. Museum of Bricks

The first stop of our trip was the Museum of Bricks. It is the largest private collection of Lego in the world. Since our family loves Lego, this was a location we could not miss. The ticket cost 330 CZK and we spent an hour exploring the exhibits. The museum holds large-scale models of real-life landmarks and movie sets. We loved the grand collections of Star Wars and Harry Potter scenes. Our kids found a Duplo Play-area and spent quite a lot of time playing while we admired the phenomenal collection of minifigures. There is also a great Lego shop at the end of the tour.

2. Dancing House Prague

From the Museum of Bricks, we walked towards the Dancing House. During the walk, we enjoyed the beautiful architecture of the buildings and found the path along the Vltava River to be extremely relaxing. The Dancing House is a modern architectural marvel with an unusual shape that makes it look as if the building is dancing. We were totally impressed by the sophisticated architecture of this unique site.

3. Grotta Umělá Jeskyně

We drove to our next location, Grotta Umělá Jeskyně. I was searching for hidden gems in Prague and came across this stunning site. There is no entrance ticket and we spent an hour here. It is an extremely scenic park featuring a stunning artificial cave with mind-blowing rock formations. The view of the fountain with the grotto in the back was awesome. We also found a playground for the kids, making this a great location for the whole family.

Day 2: History, Castles, and City Walks

4. Prague Castle Complex

On the second day, we drove to a public parking lot near the Prague Castle Complex. The full ticket was worth 450 CZK and we spent 4 hours at the site. From the top, we enjoyed a breathtaking view of the city of Prague. The size of the complex is stunning and the architecture is world-class. We stopped at a café for lunch and explored the Old Royal Palace, St. George’s Basilica, Rosenberg Palace, and the Great South Tower.

5. St. Vitus Cathedral

Located within the castle grounds, this was the most impressive structure of all. The Gothic architecture and the scale of the cathedral left us stunned. It is a central piece of the Prague skyline and a must-see for any visitor.

6. St. Nicholas Church

After descending the grand staircase from the castle, we began our walking tour at St. Nicholas Church. It is another architectural gem that showcases the beauty of the Malá Strana district.

7. Lennon Wall

Next, we arrived at the Lennon Wall. This site has a very interesting history. After John Lennon’s assassination, locals began doing graffiti on this wall. The authorities painted over it every morning, but the graffiti would reappear the next day. Eventually, they stopped, and today it serves as a beautiful memorial of peace.

8. Charles Bridge

Our next location was the famous Charles Bridge. It provided a stunning view of the Vltava River. We spent some time enjoying the spectacular views before walking towards the Old Town Bridge Tower.

9. Astronomical Clock & Old Town Hall

The Astronomical Clock is a sophisticated piece of art and craftsmanship. We sat by the stairs in front of it and enjoyed the view of the beautiful Church of Our Lady Before Tyn.

10. Jewish Quarter (Maisel & Old-New Synagogue)

From the church, we took a long walk to the Jewish neighborhood to see the Maisel Synagogue and The Old-New Synagogue. We also came across the famous Franz Kafka Statue nearby.

11. National Museum

While walking toward dinner, we passed the stunning building of the National Museum. Its grand presence dominates Wenceslas Square and is a highlight of Prague’s architectural beauty.

12. Rudolfinum

Our last stop of the day was the Rudolfinum, the most prestigious concert hall in Prague. Ending our tour here allowed us to fully appreciate the architectural focus of our trip.

Where to Eat: Best Halal Restaurants in Prague

Palestinian Restaurant Mr Falafel

We dined here for lunch on our first day. We were glad to find a Halal place and ordered Hummus, Arayes, and Palestinian Musakhan Laffa. The food was extremely delicious and we loved all the dishes.

French Tacos Prague

This is a Halal taco place that offers an affordable option. We ordered French Tacos, fries, wings, and strawberry milkshakes. It tasted alright but wasn’t anything special. However, it is a good Halal option for families on a budget.

Jaffa Restaurant

Jaffa is a Halal Arabian restaurant where I would advise you to make a reservation. The ambience is great and the food surpassed our expectations. We ordered Hummus with meat, Sambousek, Kebbeh, and a Mixed Grill. The Hummus with meat was exceptional and the star of the show.

Final Remarks

Our short trip to Prague was extremely enjoyable for all of us. The stunning architecture was the highlight of our trip, and we were happy to have found delicious Halal food so easily. We recommend architecture enthusiasts and families to spend a few days exploring this city.
