Getting Around and Staying in Switzerland

Getting to Château-d’Oex: Public Transport vs. Driving

Early morning, we drove from Aargau to Château-d’Oex. While it was mostly a smooth drive, the roads got extremely crowded towards the end of the journey. We had a really hard time finding a parking spot for our car. Because of this, our recommendation is to either use public transport or come prepared for some traffic jams.

Tickets and Festival Experience

When we visited in 2024, the entrance ticket was 10 CHF, making it a very affordable family excursion.

The scenic beauty of the valley was absolutely breathtaking. And the presence of so many huge balloons made the whole experience more enchanting. However, you should prepare for the alpine winter weather. It was extremely cold when we visited, and we found it hard to keep ourselves warm in the open field. Be sure to dress in heavy layers and wear insulated winter boots.

To help beat the cold, we spent a few hours at the festival and enjoyed small warm snacks at the food stalls, which kept us cozy.

Our Final Remarks

Our daughter loves balloons and she was ecstatic to watch huge hot air balloons take off and go up in the skies. The visit was extremely enjoyable for all of us and the scenic beauty was absolutely breathtaking. We spent a few hours at the festival and enjoyed small warm snacks at the food stalls. We recommend International Balloon Festival to everyone especially families with kids who love balloons.
